At Pier Head you will find part of Liverpool's UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located on this historic site along the Mersey River, are the iconic buildings known collectively as 'The Three Graces'. These include the Grade I listed Royal Liver Building, the Grade II listed Cunard Building and the Grade II listed Port of Liverpool Building. The Royal Liver Building, which is the headquarters of the Royal Liver Friendly Society, was completed in 1911. The most notable points of the building are the two clock towers which have mythical Liver Birds placed on top. The Cunard Building was completed in 1916 and was used as the headquarters of the Cunard Line shipping company. A monument stands outside the building to commemorate all the employees of Cunard who died during World War I. The Port of Liverpool Building was completed in 1907. Built as the home of the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board, this building is now a public open space. Pier Head is also a historical area of Liverpool as this was once the departure point for millions of migrants who left Liverpool in search for better opportunities. You can still catch ferries here in order to get across the River Mersey.
